Did You Know!
A Tick Bite Can Make You Allergic to Red Meat
A single bite from certain ticks can trigger a potentially lifelong allergy to beef, pork, lamb, and other mammalian products.
The condition is called alpha-gal syndrome, and one of its strangest characteristics is that allergic reactions often don’t appear until 2–6 hours after eating meat.
Symptoms can include hives, stomach pain, vomiting, and even life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Unlike many food allergies, this condition can develop in adulthood, even after decades of eating red meat without any problems.
