A Rare Brain Disorder Can Cause Your Hand to Move Without Your Permission
Known as alien hand syndrome, this rare neurological condition causes a person’s hand to perform movements without their conscious control. For example, the hand might grab objects, unbutton clothing, or interfere with actions performed by the other hand.
Surprising fact: The affected hand may perform seemingly purposeful actions even though the person never intended to make those movements. Alien hand syndrome has been associated with strokes, brain injuries, and certain neurodegenerative diseases.
