Some skin disorders can follow invisible “lines” across the body.
Certain skin conditions can develop along mysterious patterns known as Blaschko’s lines. These lines normally can’t be seen on healthy skin, but they are thought to trace the pathways skin cells followed as the body developed before birth. Conditions such as certain epidermal nevi and inflammatory disorders can make these hidden patterns suddenly visible. Even more fascinating, the lines form distinctive shapes depending on where they appear—often creating V-shaped patterns on the back, S-shaped curves across the abdomen, and streaks along the arms and legs.
