Superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome occurs when part of the bone covering an inner-ear balance canal is abnormally thin or develops an opening. People may hear their own voice, footsteps, heartbeat, chewing—or even eye movements—far more loudly than normal. Pressure changes and loud noises can also provoke dizziness.
