Pancreatic Disorders Can Cause Changes in Your Stool
Your pancreas does more than help regulate blood sugar. It also produces enzymes that allow your body to digest fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
When the pancreas cannot produce or deliver enough digestive enzymes, a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) can develop.
This can cause stools to become greasy, unusually foul-smelling, or difficult to flush. Some people also experience bloating, diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss.
Surprising fact: Pancreatic enzyme problems can eventually contribute to vitamin deficiencies and weakened bones because the body struggles to absorb essential nutrients.
