Some blood disorders can cause an intense itching sensation after a warm shower. People with polycythemia vera, a disorder in which the bone marrow produces too many blood cells, can experience severe itching after contact with warm water. This unusual symptom is called aquagenic pruritus, and it can occur without any visible rash.
