Cold temperatures can cause red blood cells to clump in some people. In cold agglutinin disease, abnormal antibodies can bind to red blood cells when parts of the body become cold. This can trigger red-cell destruction, leading to anemia, fatigue, weakness, and sometimes bluish discoloration of fingers or toes.
