The Lungs Have Very Few Pain Receptors
Surprisingly, lung tissue itself has very few pain-sensitive nerves. This means many serious lung disorders—including lung cancer, pneumonia, and pulmonary fibrosis—can progress significantly before causing noticeable pain. Symptoms such as persistent coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, or unexplained fatigue are often the first warning signs rather than chest pain.
