Blood Clots Can Form Without Any Injury

Many people believe blood clots only occur after surgery or a serious injury, but some inherited and acquired blood disorders make clots much more likely to develop spontaneously. Disorders such as Factor V Leiden or antiphospholipid syndrome can cause dangerous clots in otherwise healthy individuals. In some people, the first sign of the condition is a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, stroke, or recurrent pregnancy loss.
