Some Rare Muscle Diseases Cause Muscles to Turn Into Bone
One of the rarest genetic disorders in the world is Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP).
In people with FOP, muscle tissue, tendons, and ligaments gradually transform into bone over time. Even minor injuries can trigger new bone growth. As the condition progresses, joints become locked in place, severely limiting movement. FOP affects only a tiny number of people worldwide and is often called one of the most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine.
