Did You Know!
Some People See Hallucinations Because of Eye Disease, Not Mental Illness
A little-known condition called Charles Bonnet Syndrome can occur in people who have significant vision loss from disorders such as macular degeneration or glaucoma. The brain receives less visual information from the eyes and may begin generating its own images. People can see detailed faces, animals, patterns, or even entire scenes while fully understanding that what they are seeing is not real. Many patients never report the symptoms because they fear being mistaken for having a psychiatric disorder.
